Day 27
Today's Scripture:
Acts 6:1-7
Key Verses:
Acts 6:4
"But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the Word."
Acts 6:6
"...and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them."
The Point:
The disciples had become preoccupied with other areas of service and were neglecting the priorities on their "to-do" list of "prayer... and the ministry of the Word."
Seven men were chosen to carry out the responsibility of ministry for the Apostles. A prayer of dedication was offered as these godly men "of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom" (verse 3) began their ministry.
When we are chosen, commissioned, and saturated with prayer, words like "increased" and "multiplied" will accurately describe the results of what God does through us (verse 7).
"Is prayer your steering wheel or your spare tire?" - Corrie Ten Boom
Everything else is of secondary importance when prayer is of primary importance
Confess and Forsake Any Known Sin:
Probing Questions:
- What priority is does your time with God have each day?
- Do I ignore the important things, so that sleep, entertainment, play, hobbies, or professional pursuits can take first place?
- Would your marriage last if you spent the same amount of time talking to your spouse as you do God?
- Have you hurt someone in your family or church and you need to make it right?
Praise:
I am chosen of God.
1 Peter 1:2 "Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied."
Request:
- Ask God to develop a Godly Attitude in you.
- Ask God to appoint godly people to government positions that will honor the Lord.
- Pray about specific positions and issues you feel led to pray about.
- Ask the Lord if there any actions you can take, such as sending a letter to your representative or supporting a ministry that works on a particular issue.
