Day 21

Today's Scripture:
Matthew 27:45-54

Key Verse:
Matthew 27:46

"Jesus cried with a loud voice... My God, my God, why hast Thou forsaken me?"

The Point:
This may be the most pitiful prayer ever prayed in history. For three hours, God the Father refused to look upon His Son as the sin of the world was placed upon Him. During these hours, Jesus experienced the essence of Hell - a total separation from God. His cry portrays the agony of a soul that is separated from God because of sin. In the case of Jesus, it was not His own sin but the sin of all mankind. Eternity will be filled with the similar cries of individuals who reject God's offer of salvation in Christ.

"Amazing love how can it be, that Thou my God shouldst die for me!" - Charles Wesley

Confess and Forsake Any Known Sin:

Probing Questions:

  • Have you denied Jesus by remaining silent when the opportunity to witness arose at work?
  • Have you failed to share the gospel with someone because of your fear of what they might think of you?
  • Are you more afraid of others’ opinions of you than the destiny of their eternal soul?
  • How much do you have to hate someone to not tell them about Heaven?

Praise:
I am able to do all things through Christ!

Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."

Request:

  • Ask God to give you love for your lost family and friends which manifests as strength to overcome our fear of rejection and self-conscious pride.
  • Ask God to give you the opportunity and the words to tell your salvation story to someone today.
  • Ask God to strengthen and use your church and pastors to reach souls.
  • Ask God to give you a love for your church and a desire to serve in it for His glory.
